Saint Luis to Saint Louis

 EXPLOSIVE TRADE ALERT!

A league becomes a real league when earth-shattering maneuvers are made. St. Louis, desperate for acceptable QB play, made the move countless Reddit experts demanded and traded for the Spring King. Fitting in a city named for a king - of course, Saint Louis was a better saint than soldier. If he were a quarterback: lopsided win-loss record. Great man, lousy warrior. He was no Godfrey of Bouillon.

The Battlehawks landed a quarterback to exploit and maximize the cheat code known as Hakeem Butler. Last game, he had two catches. TWO! Frost was a nice story for a game but the adrenaline rush has worn off. Silvers is not the answer. Pratt remains an unseen question mark. St. Louis now has the inside track on the final playoff spot.

For Dallas, the return of a single lineman, Corey Stewart, sparks question about the deal's origination. Surely, if the teams were independent agencies, the return for such a valuable bargaining chip would be higher? Stewart likely won't even start for Dallas. The Renegades should have, at least, landed a weapon or a defensive presence.

If the league did massage a deal, well, I can't say that is a positive outcome. While, I understand the temptation to balance the league and not let talented players - whatever your thoughts on Perez, he is a capable starter - rot, executive meddling, like suspension of rights in tragedies, should be rarely exercised, if ever leveraged. Dallas better hit the local cathedral and pray hard that Reed remains healthy.

Don't forget that the Stallions' championship gallops had horsepower of multiple QB options for injuries or plain inefficiency. The Renegades arguably lost one of their most important guns. Football revolves around quarterbacks. The 2023 Renegades rode a questionable trade which sent Perez from Rod Woodson's snake-bitten Vipers to Arlington and an eventual XFL title.

At the end of the pudding cup, St. Louis drastically improved and might finally break through for that elusive playoff win. The Battlehawks are objectively the league's headlining franchise. (I love my Stallions, but while we have the titles, St. Louis has energy.) Their attendance and support are what every UFL team should strive for. Perez can firmly cement his spring legacy with a second title.

Cue 2001 ABC Football voice: "Will the Spring King reign in St. Louis or will his throne be deposed?"

Grades: St. Louis A+ | Dallas D-

  1. I don't understand the fascination people have with such a mediocre QB. He's never had a winning season, he's never been a dynamic playmaker, and despite being a timid passer he lead the league in interceptions last year.

    1. He has been anything but mediocre. He is the best Spring Football quarterback in history.

    2. He had 5 interceptions in 10 games how the hell did he lead the league in interceptions? You're just saying BS.

    3. Yes, 5 interceptions was enough to lead the league in INTs. He also lead the league in sacks taken and I think fumbles lost. People make it out like it was a really big deal he lost the camp battle but he did not look good last year. And truthfully he only ever looked good in 2024. He's more of a 1 year wonder than some crazy good QB. There's a reason Vegas looked noticeably better when they moved on from him.
